Feedback Friday - Read and Discuss

(Damn, this is cute! And, yes, I turned on the light at 11 pm to snap this picture)

Read:

My two younger sons are 8 and 6 years old. Though my 8 year old has always been the "loner" and wanted his own space, he is currently going through his "nightmare phase" (just like big brother did). He has had a few bad dreams at night which resulted in him asking the 6 year old to sleep in his room.

Apparently, having his brother sleeping in the next bed didn't seem to ward off the dreams, because next he asked his brother to sleep next to him in bed. This seems to have worked and they have slept in the same double bed for the last 3 months or so.

The boys chat a bit before going to sleep, and once asleep never stir until morning.

This sleeping arrangement drives the Big Guy crazy.

Discuss...

p.s. (two more days till my 29th (again) birthday!)

  1. First of all, I was a lot better off once I looked at the big picture in situations like this. Think of it this way, they sure as heck won't be sleeping together when they are 14 and 12! lol So, what the hay? If it makes one feel better and they're sleeping well, it can't possibly hurt anything, in my book. Sorry big guy. I vote for, "if it ain't broke..."

  2. I ditto the comment above me. If they were still sleeping that way when they were 14 and 12 I would say to end it, but if they are happy now... why ruin a good thing? Not to mention, at some point they will probably become teenagers and not want to be around each other as much. Maybe this will foster a little more closeness as they get older...

  3. I see how it could be a difficult habit to break, but it's better than having him come to your bed at night. And plus, it's just so darn cute! I'm in going to concur with Waterstone Jewelry on this one, I'm sure they won't always want to sleep in the same bed anyway so it doesn't seem to be doing any harm.

  4. My older sister used to beg my parents to sleep with me every night! Some of my favorite pics are us sleeping just like your boys. I think it's great for siblings to have one another like that...

I told her, I like to think it was because she loved me so much...but I think it's just because being apart is unnatural for best friends...

    Happy day!

  5. I don't have kids, but I think it is a healthy way to deal with a temporary phase. The 8 year old is probably barely out of the "boogie man and monster under the bed" stage. They're still little boys. Let 'em be little boys (and dang adorable!) Now if he was wanting to sleep with you guys for the last three months, I'd be more concerned. I think it's great that two brothers have such a relationship.

  6. i don't see it as a problem at all. all three of my boys (9, 5 and 3) share a room and whenever i peek in on them, there is a new sleeping arrangement. most often it is all three boys in the top bunk. if it helps them sleep, i'm all for it!

  7. I agree with all of the comments. No need to regurgitate (sp?). My boys age 9, 7, 6 and 3 are all close for the most part and it is in part to them relying on each other (like this). Like already mentioned, it won't last forever, and look at the memories made-! Once the arrangement stops, you're going to want it back b/c it is so dang cute and unforgettable. Sorry Dad!

  8. Cute photos.

I think as long as everyone is sleeping life is good.

    I'm sure they won't be sharing a bed at 18 and 20.
